Heaton Park Synagogue Incident: One Victim Appears to Have Been Shot by Officers

During a tragic turn of events, a individuals killed at the Heaton Park synagogue assault is believed to have been fatally wounded by armed police officers.

Police Announcement Reveals Firearm Injury

The senior officer from the local force announced that a forensic expert has initially concluded the man died of a bullet injury.

“We sought guidance overnight from the Home Office pathologist ahead of full postmortem examinations set to occur this afternoon. The Home Office pathologist indicated that preliminary findings show one of the deceased victims would appear to have suffered a wound matching a firearm wound.”

Suspect Details

The suspect, Jihad al-Shamie, was not carrying a firearm, and all discharged rounds came from authorized firearms personnel at the scene.

It is believed the deceased was part of the group behind the synagogue door seeking to prevent the assailant from gaining entry.

Names Released

The two victims killed in the attack at Heaton Park synagogue in north Manchester on Thursday had been named as 53-year-old Adrian Daulby and 66-year-old Melvin Cravitz.

The men lost their lives when a car was used to crash through the grounds of the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation synagogue, before the attacker targeted attendees in a brief violent spree that concluded after armed officers fired upon him, killing him at the door of the temple.

Additional Injuries

Three others were seriously injured in the attack on Yom Kippur, the most sacred occasion in the Jewish calendar.

The chief constable added, “Medical professionals have informed us that one of the three victims currently receiving treatment sustained a firearm injury, which is fortunately non-fatal. It is believed both victims were close together at the entrance, as worshippers acted bravely to prevent the attacker from getting inside.”

“Our thoughts and prayers are directed toward the affected relatives, and the wider community, impacted by these events in the region and elsewhere. Specialist officers are offering aid and assistance for all of those directly affected, including the courageous emergency teams.”

Suspect Background

Police named the attacker as the individual, thirty-five, a UK national of Syrian origin.

Local law enforcement said that three other people – two male suspects and an older female – had been detained “for alleged commission, preparation and instigation of acts of terrorism”.
