Nineteen of Medvedev's 21 championships have been won on hard surfaces

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev won his maiden championship for nearly 30 months with victory over Corentin Moutet in the tournament final.

The athlete, a ex- world number one, has experienced a difficult season, achieving just a single victory at the Grand Slams and experiencing a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

His inconsistency on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his service game in especial - resulted in him dropping out of the world's top 10 and eventually separating with long-time mentor his previous coach.

Presently collaborating with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, he has gradually progressed in the recent weeks - culminating in a tightly fought three-set triumph over Frenchman Moutet.

This represents Medvedev's maiden championship since the Italian tournament and first on a hard court from spring of that year.

Victory also means the Russian has achieved 21 victories at twenty-one distinct tournaments.

"For the first time I have attended a event with my children simultaneously, so to win a championship is really nice," commented ranked player Daniil Medvedev.

"This title is in tribute of my child Victoria, because the first title I achieved when my child my daughter was born was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his previous six finals, comprising in Halle in the past months.

Medvedev's counter-punching play style and recurring outbursts on court had caused commentators to doubt if his capacity to compete at the top level was concluded.

Yet the athlete has made changes in the past month, making an effort to advance forward and perform positively, backed up by an enhanced serve.

The champion recovered from a break down in the initial set against the tricky Frenchman, winning 4 of the concluding five exchanges to go ahead.

Both players swapped breaks in the following set before the challenger, striving for his maiden tour victory, took control to force a decider.

The opponent saved 4 early break points in a tight deciding set before the Russian won the break to 15 to serve for the match.

Suitably, he secured the win with a rally at the net area, with Moutet unable to control a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
